Family Camping

So my dad wanted to do a camping trip, that was not necessarily a family trip, but of course the entire family was invited. Whoever wanted to come could come but no one was forced to go. Not that anyone in our family would be forced to go on a family trip, our family loves outings. However, it did turn into a farewell for Chris and Alicia before they go up to North Dakota. We stayed in Spruces and everyone that could be there was there (missed you Andrea). Friday night was the only night that everyone was there. We had hobo dinners and roasted marshmallows. I love camping!

Here are some of my favorite pictures. Everyone says me and Jake need more pictures and I agree. This is only like our third pictures. Although our engagement pictures are going to be taken in about a week or so.

Towel Jungle

One of my favorite things about travelling is maid service. I leave for work and when I come back everything is nice and neat my bed is made and everything is restocked. Being in Manila for so long the staff really got to know me. One of the people who cleaned my room was really nice one day and left me towel bunny and a note saying hi. So I responded saying thanks for cleaning my room and that I really enjoyed the animal and he left me another animal, this time a gorilla. Although the following night I left but I wonder if I’d stayed if they would have made me more animals.DSCN0230DSCN0232

Corregidor Island Part II

I’m so bad at keeping my blog up to date so I have to play catch up and the problem is that I don’t have enough time to catch up. Anyway here is the second part to Michaelene, Dad and I’s trip to Corregidor Island.

After we went to the Malinta tunnel we went had lunch at the hotel on the island. It was Filipino food which was good, but I don’t have any pictures of us eating.

Next we went and saw some of the big guns on the island. Dad really enjoyed looking at these and of course we had to get pictures of our big guns next to the big gun. Haha, but those are on Michaelene’s or Dad’s camera so here are my pictures with the big guns.

Next we saw the old barracks on the island. There were actually a lot of barracks, the mile long barracks, top side barracks, middle side barracks. All of which actually look the same, like ruins. Still pretty cool to see. I’m sure during the glory days these were some pretty nice buildings. The mile long barracks had an indoor swimming pool and you could tell the architecture was beautiful. Although I should mention the mile long barracks are only 1/3 mile long, but the soldiers had to run the length of the barracks and while running they seemed forever long and that’s how it got it’s nickname.

Next we saw the U.S. memorial and the eternal flame, but by this time I was exhausted and since I had seen all this before I let Michaelene and Dad go on while I waited on the tour bus. After which we went to the light house on the island. It’s not a big light house, but it’s fun to walk up and look around.

Finally we’d seen it all so we went back to the beach and found out that the Ferry wasn’t going to be there for another 2 hours. Me and Michaelene hung out at this really nice little “shack” that had a dance floor, place to get drinks and nice chairs to sit in. They had Karaoke going on and yes me and Michaelene went up there and sang. Dad said we had a lot nerve to get up and sing in front of people hahaha it was funny. Dad went on an additional tour of the Malinta tunnel. It took people through the side tunnels.

Corregidor Island

So I love Manila and enjoy going there every time. Tropical air and trees, plus the people are nice and the food isn’t terrible. However, one of my recent trips there I was able to have my sister and my dad come for a few days and it was fun. I must admit it was a little hard because I still had to work so our schedules clashed a little, but it worked. I pretty much was only able to spend two days with them. Saturday and Sunday, but they were really fun.

Saturday morning (right after work for me) we had planned to go to Corregidor Island. It’s an old Military base right at the mouth of Manila bay that had some American History during WWII. Michaelene and Dad met me at my office and then we went over to the bay to catch our ferry. We were a little bit early so we had breakfast in this little square right by the bay. It was fun and an interesting place because there were all these  people there doing aerobics. I didn’t get any pictures of the aerobics, but there are a few pictures of us at breakfast and around the area.

We then took the Ferry to Corregidor Island which I slept the entire way to the Island. Once on the island we got on our little tour “buses” they were small and were fashioned after trolley’s. The tour guide said that during the time when the island was big they had a trolley system on the island. Our first stop was the Japanese Memorial.

Next we went to the Malinta Tunnel which is one of the more interesting sights of the island. It was used as a bunker way back when the island was active. There are all sorts of tunnels that go through hill and the main tunnel is a light and sound show. It pretty much tells the history of the island during WWII where each little tunnel off the main one has statues and scenery depicting scene. Then over the sound system would be a dramatic reading of the story and the entire tunnel would be dark except the tunnel that the story was talking about.

Engaged

So I have some news I want to shout to the world and while I know only a few people read this blog and those people already know the news, I am still writing it in my blog for other reasons (mainly keepsake reasons). Two weeks ago my boyfriend of 4 months, Jake, proposed to me. It was a cute, funny and completely unplanned way to ask. Mainly it was my fault as to why it was not planned.

Well the story starts that we had been talking about marriage often and knew we probably would. Then the night before my first trip of three trips to Manila we were talking and he asked what would I say if he asked me to marry him. Of course I would say yes and then decided to show him this cheap ring that I had gotten because it was my perfect wedding ring. I told him my ring size and all that fun stuff.

While in Manila we would talk on Skype with cameras and all that fun stuff. Well one day he mentions that he had gone ring shopping already and found one that is my perfect wedding ring and one that was a little different and wasn’t sure which one I would like better. I told him to pick the one he liked better because it was his gift to me. Well then about a week later while we were talking he said he had gotten me a ring and that I would love it. I got all excited and he could tell. Then he told me the ring was actually a joke ring, thought it was funny and thought I would too. Then he told me he had been thinking about us and how he did want to marry, but still wanted to take our time. Not rush things. He then apologized for getting my hopes up about the ring and just figured I would understand that it was joke. I must admit I was a little dismayed by it, but then quickly brushed past the feelings. After all I did understand where he was coming from. He had been married before and he (and I) didn’t want to make the same mistake.

When I got home he picked me up from the airport and somewhere in the conversation mentioned that while I was home we should go ring shopping. Once again the dismay hit me because I thought he already found what he wanted to give me. However, I again quickly brushed past the feeling and thought of how fun it would be to go ring shopping because you only get to do it once. Well I continued to think about ring shopping and the next day told him we needed to go ring shopping. He was a little hesitant which I thought was strange since he brought it up in the first place, but finally agreed to go. So we went into Salt Lake and stopped at the Shane Co. to look at rings. We went through the whole process I picked out bands then she brought out the diamond to show the total affect of the ring. I actually found one that I really like and once again got excited about having an engagement ring. As we were leaving the store I kept talking about the ring and how much I liked it. Well as it turns out, he had already bought me a ring and all the stuff he’d said about not being ready and the idea to go ring shopping were all a ploy to throw me off the track of him proposing to me. It worked, just a little to well. So he told me he had already bought me a ring and hoped that I wouldn’t be disappointed in it.

Curiosity got the better of me and so I pretty much begged him to show it to me. So he did and I LOVED IT! it was better then the one we saw in the store. I was so excited. Well since he hadn’t talked to my dad yet he said I couldn’t wear it so I gave it back and went through the rest of the day as if I was on a cloud. Later that night when my dad got home from work at 1 in the morning he talked to my dad. Although I hadn’t realized he had because they were both outside when they did. Then as we were going to bed and saying Goodnight. Jake asked me if I loved him and I told him that he knew I did. He responded saying that he will always love me and then said will you marry me. I didn’t expect it to happen that moment and so I was a little bit surprised. He got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. I said yes and then kissed him.

I know it’s a long story, but the whole story just makes it all the better.

I have been trying to get a good picture of the ring, but so far have not succeeded. Here are my best tries though. I’m sure it would help if I had a camera that could take better close up shots. And it doesn’t help that my hands are really not pretty.

Nieces

I know I should probably let the mommies post the pictures of their babies, but I don’t really get much of a chance to talk about things other then myself or the places I’ve been. Plus I promised Andrea I would put these up.

These pictures are of the two cutes babies in the world. Seriously I cannot see any how anyone can claim to know cuter babies. It was funny because we took these pictures one weekend real quickly and Rashelle and Alicia did not even mean to the same onsie one.

The Weekends

While I’m here in Manila I have to work during the night and sleep during the day which is ok during the week because it keeps me awake during my normal times. The problem is the weekends. Today I went to bed at about 2:30 and then lied down and next thing I knew it was dark and not sure what time it was. Whether I should get up or if I hadn’t slept enough and should just turn over and fall back asleep. I decided to get up and it was 9:30 so somehow in there I had been asleep for 7 hours. It was strange. Last weekend was a little easier because I met Naomi and Nate to go hang out. So I woke up the normal time and then we had a night out on the town and I stayed awake all night. So then I slept during the day and woke up at night automatically. Thanks to Jake, I was able to stay awake all of Sunday night without getting bored. We tried to watch a movie together, but it was hard because I was watch freeze frames of the movie and couldn’t hear very good. So I called some of my family and then went to bed around 10. This weekend I’m hanging out in the Hotel, relaxing and doing a little bit of work.

Here are some of my pictures from the night out with Nate and Naomi. Nate’s camera has a lot more pictures. They were picture happy so I didn’t take as many.
